The music
Pablo Aguirre and Luis Rocco found each other through the music. They dedicated long time to classical music and felt the need to renovate it and to give these classical elements a new direction.
The search for a cultural identity, but fundamentally for its collective expression, joined these both artists and two musical styles, which are profoundly engrained in Latin America: the classical music of european tradition is an as essential part of the contemporary latin american culture as the tango, the folklore and other regional styles.
Aguirre was searching for a music reflecting his city, its inhabitants and its incidents, such that he developed his compositions alongside the observation of the images, the sounds and the spirits of his surroundings, the play with the rhythmical elements of his everyday reality. Luis Rocco understood the defiance to renovate the classical music, to enrich it with this intense sense, so characteristic for the tango. Their concepts joined structures and concepts of classical music with clearly recognisable elements of tango and this shows in the compositions and in the brillant interpretation by the duo.
The search of this duo is based on the renovation and on the desire to keep living the cultural traditions. Consequently „Classical music meets tango“ is a double success, given that the Duo Aguirre-Rocco presents a renovation of the classical music tradition and at the same time the long awaited innovative further development of tango's structural reform after Piazzolla.
